Blogmas day 9

Here is my actual piece of art for the Scrawlr challenge 'Born from bubbles' (yesterdays post was a practice piece). I really love this guy and I think using the blue metallic pen on this piece as well would have ruined it. They say you have to use only the supplies in the box, doesn't mean you have to use them all.  Hey look I put the right date this time lol.

Did some more wrapping of presents and I started on the labels but I don't really like what I made so back to the drawing board.

Blogmas day 8

Today I started with finishing the treasure dragon from yesterday and its now listed in the shop. I also played around with the Spectrum Noir Artliner pens from the Scrawlrbox and the gold pen. The prompt is 'Born from bubbles' so I thought about a fish and I have been wanted to draw a Koi in a tattoo style for a while and thought why not combine the two.

(Yes I realize I dated it wrong lmao, honestly thought it was the 7th)

Also we put up the Christmas trees today and yesterday so some slightly more festive photos will be appearing in the next few blogs.

Blogmas day 7

After my last black fine liner blog post I discovered I had missed two.

Chameleon Detail pen, I got this pen from a Scrawlrbox with Chameleon pens

Faber Castell is a pen I have used years ago but has dried out since so this one is a new one.

Artline Ergoline came with October's Scrawlbox along with the ZIg writer and whilst I was unimpressed with how they worked on the supplied paper they do work quite well on other surfaces.

And from November's Scrawlrbox is the Spectrum Noir Artliner pen, haven't really had much time to play around with these yet.

Blogmas day 6

Post day! I've been waiting (not) patiently for the post man today. The dice shop had a mixed bag of discontinued dice and me being a sucker for dice and the unknown I bought one, he he.

There's quite a few lol

And I needed a resupply of some metallic clay and deco gel for my treasure dragons, and I found this liquid gold gel from Sculpey which I want to try out for the coins. Good lord trying to get hold of metallic clay this time of year is a challenge, damn you all for making Christmas decorations.

And a little treat to myself:

Not drawn anything with these yet, just taken the grey out and tried it, excited to draw something with these when I get a chance.

Blogmas Day 5

Spent today making loads of little coins for more treasure dragons:

Blogmas day 4

Been wrapping presents today! Orders have started to arrive and I like to get them wrapped asap. Even though we don't have the tree up yet lol

I haven't decided on what to do for labels yet....

Also I played around with one of the pine cones from yesterday:
Yay glitter! there is glitter all over my desk now, but then it is Christmas, isn't there glitter everywhere anyway?!

Blogmas day 3

Today my mother and I went out on an adventure for pine cones as I want to make place names with them for our Christmas dinner.  Apparently it is not the season for pine cones either that or everyone else has had the same idea lol. We also got some Holly and some Ivy for some crafty ideas.

Blogmas day 2

So today I went Christmas present shopping with my mother but I have no piccys to show so here is a quick sketch of a dragon with a Christmas pudding...

Also we're getting some nice stuff to decorate the table for Christmas dinner this year as its my sister-in-law's first western Christmas (she is Chinese) and the Chinese like taking photos of everything for Wechat, so we want the table to look selfie ready lol.

Blogmas day 1

Ok so for the next 24 (or maybe longer) days I will attempt to update this blog everyday with either Chrsitmassy stuff or regular day to day stuff.

First off my Moo.com order arrived a day ago and for the first time ever I have actually got Christmas Cards printed! I was spurred on when they sent out a 30% off code during black Friday. So that Saturday I was frantically painting the image/idea I have had floating around in my head for a few months.

I also took advantage of the code to reorder some more business cards and to also include a new image, the blue treasure dragon. Stickers!!! love stickers, this time the little book of stickers is just full of the treasure dragon images, because why not.

This is the image:

and here are the cards:

Love 'em! Also don't know why my camera decided to make all these images really blue :( think it might be this time of year and the lack of sunlight.

November's Scrawlrbox (finally!)

November's Scrawlrbox finally dropped on my doormat this morning!

They sent us emails over a week ago saying there was a delay with sending the boxes out due to one of the suppliers being late. So it arrived today and I quite like the look of it, you know I love my black fine liners and this was a brand/make I haven't used before so I am excited to play with them. I also like the prompt 'Born from bubbles' and I love the print from Cai Burton.

Any way I will probably get round to working on my challenge this weekend.

Derpy Reindeer

He came as a free kit from a magazine and hes suppose to have more decorations on him but I like him naked hehe. This took far too long to make and was quite stressful, the last time I attempted something like this it was a fox and it did not go well.....

Anyway despite his tiny feet and derpy face, I like him and hes going to go on a shelf when we start decorating for Christmas.

October Scrawlrbox

So this was Octobers Scrawlrbox:
I was pretty happy when I opened the box, you know I like black pens  so new pens and ones I haven't used before make for a happy Michelle. I usually take individual photos of everything but as we are going into winter and there's less sunny or bright days, these photos I took shortly after opening it will have to do.

I've used a white Graphik paint maker before and my best friend has a box of all the colours so I already knew this existed and had tried them before. Nice pens, they put down paint (acrylic?) so they are good for going on top of dark colours and still are nice and opaque. Use again? Yes

Zig Dual Writer pen, Nice black pen one end is for fine detail and other is a broad felt tip, however whilst drawing my picture when I went to rub out the pencil a lot of the paper lifted with it! arg! I think that was due to the paper though. Use again? its been added to my collection, I will need to test its waterproofness though.

Artline ergoline pen, Yay another black pen! however this one bled on the paper so I didnt get to use it, but it does write really well on my notebook so I have adopted it as my new writing pen. Use again? Yes

Staedtler Graphite pencil, I liked this pencil a lot, has been added to the pencil case. Use again? Yes

The little book we were given was an A6 Hahnemuhle book, I don't think the paper was suited for the pens in this box, well the Graphik pens did ok but they are paint and sit on the paper surface rather than go in the paper. Use again? Not likely

And here is the art I did: the prompt was equilibrium but I was more inspired by the featured artist's print which was a zentangle thing

September Scrawlrbox

So this is Septembers box and I love it! Watercolours!!!!!

3 Tubes of Van Gogh Watercolours, (I've always wanted to do a photo of tubes of paint with some squeezed out).
Likey to use again? Yes! I love having different brands of watercolours in my paint box and these are quite big sizes in comparison to some I already own.

Seawhite Synthetic brushes, not the best for watercolours as synthetic doesn't hold as much water as sable brushes, also strong pigments stain them.
Likey to use again? Yes, its always good to have many brushes, and these will add to the seawhite brushes I got in February's box

Pentel correcting pen, I think I would have preferred a white watercolour pencil to this as this comes out quite thick. The prompt was Space Mask so we would use this for stars but its really big, at least a white watercolour pencil could be shaved and the pigment mixed with water and then you could splatter the paint with a brush over the piece to create random stars.
Likey to use again? Sort of, I will add it to my stationary collection.

And Finally Watercolour pencils by Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth. I like these, the colours are a good choice for the prompt I would have liked a purple but you can make it with the blue and pink. As I said above you can get a knife or sharpen these pencils (removing the wood shaving) and mix the pigment with water and you get a homemade watercolour pan. Which gives you a much stronger colour than if you coloured the paper and went over with water.
Likey to use again? Yes, I already have a few watercolour pencils (derwent) and these will add more colours.

The prompt was Space mask, I have already done something but I want to add more detail to it.
