Scrawlrbox July and August

So here are July and Augusts Boxes

I think Julys box was quite interesting as it was liquid graphite! something I've never heard of before, its werid to use too and I am not sure the 'colours' work. but anyway the prompt was Mother nature, i think? so I was stumped with that again.
So I drew a skull! who's suprised anymore?! lol

And this is Augusts box which I am excited about as I've been on a bit of an acrylic binge at the moment and I can't wait to use these!

Scrawlrbox June 2020

OOOO I love this box! although I feel we've just had a watersoluble box (april) so I didnt think we would get one again so soon. But I dont care as I love watercolours!!!!!!

Excited by the colours and prompt for this box and I already have an idea for it (and its not a skull hehe)
Oh and I must get on and do something with Mays charcoal box, I got a bit distracted with my idea for that and never went back to it. Charcoal is messy....

Artful box 2

So during this lockdown I've been looking for new things to try without leaving the house. I thought about getting another Artsnacks box but it seemed that everyone else had that idea too and they were all sold out and I think there was a waiting list. I remembered a box that my friend had recommended to me some months back but I was put off as it was only a quarterly box, however it was close to the deadline for box 2. So thats what I went for, it is rather expensive for a box £30 including shipping, but they had a code that gives you £10 off so I only spent £20 on this box. I thought that given the price and the fact that the box is only one every 3 months that there would be a lot of supplies in it to keep us busy. I was disapointed.

It looks like the majority of the money goes towards printing the hefty magazine that comes with it, as I do not feel the supplies make up the price.
Faber Castell Polychromos: Hobbycraft price £1.90, Amazon £3.49
Faber Castell Pencils: Hobbycraft £1.60, Amazon £2.16
Faber Castell Mechanical Pencil: Amazon £4.52
Faber Castell Sketch Pad A5: Craftstash £5.49
Faber Castell Rubber: Amazon a box of 40! £2.18 so 5p each?
Sharpener: Amazon a box of 50 £1.99 so 3p each
So a total of £20.29 if you shop around.
I don't understand why we've been given a white pencil when there is no coloured paper to use it on, we have a white sketch pad and white cards so making that pencil useless.

My overall impression of the box is its not worth the money nor the wait, yes I will use the supplies (and I have been) as they are good quality and the pencils/sharpeners and rubbers will always be useful, but I like subscription boxes to challenge me and make me think outside my comfort zone.

2020 Scrawlrboxes so far

 Februarys box

March's Box

I loved April's box so much that I did multiples, including a self portait.

Then I aslo bought an old box from the shop which I think was Jan 2017, and I LOVE how my drawing came out!

Scrawlrbox October 2019

I like the look of this box, but the prompt 'Dressed to the nines' is giving me problems as always.

Scrawlrbox September

Excited by this box, as its watercolours but different?! never seen or heard of these before but its a novel idea, good for traveling. Also excited about the winsor and newton fineliner pen, I've been wanting to try these out since they first mentioned them.

Scrawlrbox August

I do love me a rainbow selection, and I'm super happy that we got the chameleon fineliners! the prompt is Rainbow Renaissance so god knows what I'll do for that, maybe I will do a skull again or maybe keep practising my dragons.

June's ScrawlrBox

Love this box, although I have already got the Polychromos colouring pencils, but I don't own the Daler Rowney Aquafine watercolours. It's a cute travel set that I've been carrying around in my bag since it arrived but have yet to use them lol. The prompt is Summer flourish and I am really stuck on it.

March Scrawlrbox and April

So this is what I have done so far for March's Scrawlrbox 'Enchantress'
I've inked it since this scan and printed it out on some Mixed Media paper and I have been painting it with watercolours which I know isn't what came in the box but for what I plan I think only watercolours will work.

And this is Aprils Box, the prompt is 'Words of Wisdom' and the print was a very nice typography print, So again I am going to struggle with this one as I absolutely do not do any form of typography and any attempts of Calligraphy have always failed.

So Skulls? lol....

March Scrawlrbox

Yay March's Scrawlrbox arrived last week and I like the look of these supplies, I have already been using the pencil to sketch and write stuff. I don't know how I feel about having a whole range of colours to use, I think I like being restricted to a certain colour pallete. Anyway the prompt is Enchantress so its a person and we all know I cant draw people so I don't know what I will end up drawing.

February Scrawlrbox

I really like the supplies in this box, they seem a bit random but the pens are all felt tips so they work well with being blended. The prompt was Plumage and with the colours in the box I went with a Macaw. Looking on social media it looks like the spectrum noir aquatint pen has different colours, I got moonlight which is yellow so my box essentially had 3 yellow pens.

Really pleased with how the macaw came out even if the green that I had mixed on the masking tap leaked on to the paper :(

ScrawlrBox January

So January's Scrawlrbox arrived a little later then usual and you'll notice that I have two of the same pens. There should be a Micron 01 pen and a Sakura pigma brush pen but both pens look the same so I understand how I ended up with a double. Anyway I messaged Scrawlrbox and the missing pen has been shipped out to me. I do like the look of this box, its nice to have markers again and a different brand, unsure on the colours and I've seen on Instagram that there is another set of colours that some people have received: dusty pink, burnt sienna and cinnamon. The prompt is 'growing up' and I have an idea for the prompt but also an idea based on the colours too.

Scrawlrbox update

So this was December's Scrawlrbox and I nearly ruined the surprise for myself as I forgot to unfollow the hashtag #scrawlrchallenge on instagram and was happily scrolling through, saw a picture of a rose then looked at the comments and saw it was the scrawlrbox I hadn't received yet. Then it was too late as I had started to read the comments and I was sure it said pastel pencils, so when my box arrived I was not as excited as I already knew what it was. Buuuuuut I had misread it in my sleep deprived state the PROMPT was pastel petals and the theme of the box was pastel colours, so I was super happy when these pens popped out.

Here's a skull drawn with the Derwent colouring pencils from October's box.

and another from September's box.

Scrawlrbox have emailed us this month to say the box will be late so it could be another week or so before I get January's box.

Art Snacks December box

I think, it arrived on the 10th so that makes it Decembers box right?

Anyway another uninspiring box, I already have the faber castell pens and the Krink marker is weird as you can't write over it so really limits it use. I will probably use the tombow fudenosuke pen and the draughting pencil at some point.

ScrawlrBox Saturday

I quite like this box, the colours are very spring-like and I love another excuse to play with markers again. I've never heard of the Micron PN pen before so its something new to play with and the Gelly Roll gel pen is something thats been on my amazon wish list for a while and now I don't have to buy it lol

The prompt is Woodland Creatures, though I think I may do a different subject.

Decided to go with a Sumatran Tiger as the colours fitted, I quite enjoyed the pens and am pleased with the result.

Scrawlr box April

Ok so apparently I haven't photographed the April Scrawlrbox contents separately from the art. I am really pleased with this box, so much better than last months, I can actually make some art with the supplies!

The box had Derwent Graphitint pencils in and I know they are water soluble but we weren't supplied with a brush so I wasn't sure about leaving them as is or adding water to them. So I photographed the picture before adding water in case I ruined my pic but I am so glad I did add water as it looks so much better!

ScrawlrBox March

Gunna say straight off the bat that this is my least favourite box so far. How can I create art with doodling pens? Yes the gel pens are really pretty but I am not 15 and writing my crush's name on my sketchbooks in little hearts. Again with the multi coloured pencil, I haven't used one since I was 9 years old, and you know I hate the Wink of Luna pens. Think I might go rouge and use some previous boxes for this months challenge 'Magic Potions' /rant

A year of Scrawlrboxes

As January's box landed on the mat it marked one whole year of my Scrawlrbox subscription, 12 boxes in 12 months.

Searching in my blog using #scrawlrbox will find you all the individual blog posts with the boxes in.

So I was quite pleased with how many of the boxes I loved and which ones I didn't. I think there were only 2 boxes that I didn't like: May's Highlighter box and July's one which I felt was a random assortment of supplies that didn't really work together.

I absolutely loved June's Box of Chameleon pens, and any box that supplied a Pencil/graphite stick and a fine liner. I really enjoyed Feb's Acrylics, March's Pastels and September's and December's Watercolour boxes.

What made it into my regular supplies? Well all the pencils, all the black fine liners except the artline pens (do not like them at all). The Derwent rubber, compass and now the little brass sharpener. All the brushes have been added to the brush pot and watercolours added to my watercolour box. Same with the Acrylics. Even though I didn't like the highlighter box the highlighters are in my desk/stationary stuff with the Isosketch tool and pentel correct express pen.

Now I am not a marker artist so the Magic Markers, Style file markers and Illustrator Spectrum noir markers don't have a home and live in a shoe box along with the scrawlrbox stickers, paper that i didn't use and the little info sheet.

The only art material that these boxes have made me want to buy more of was the Chameleon pens, as I absolutely love them.
